30 Minutes: Yatton

I did not feel like running this morning, but I didn't let that get the better of me. It was warm and very humid, which was part of the reason I thought about hanging my shoes up. What got me out of the door was trying out an audio book, inspired by April Anne's "Reading" on the Run post. So I checked out John Grisham's Bleachers from the library. I must say, that the 15-minute turnaround point came in a seeming blink of the eye. Before I knew it, I was home and in the shower. I definitely understand what April Anne's saying. I'm looking forward to the next run so I can hear what happens next.

I’m glad the audio book idea motivated you to get out the door–it sure helps me sometimes. I even found that I will willingly run for an extra 10-20 minutes if I am in the middle of a really good chapter. I do have a question for you...do you think you run slower when listening to a book? I know I run a lot slower. Any suggestions?

Ohhh, I so want to try this! I have this weird fear of getting addicted to music or books while running, and then if I don't have them, not being able to do squat.

I'm nothing if not good for fears! Sounds like a glorious escape though! And, love the scenery. I used to work in Leesburg, before it got icky, now in D.C. But it still is purty!

I'm not sure if the audiobook is slowing me down--hard to tell because I'm running slow to begin with right now. It would make sense though--especially because it does distract a little from the running. I think audiobooks are probably best-suited for slower runs. If I were to try a tempo run or speedwork, I'd probably want something that is aimed at keeping my engine going. Also, I have a hard time concentrating when I'm working hard. I've noticed that with running partners that are in a lot better shape--they'll keep talking, but I can't keep listening.

Oh, i don't think it's slowing you down. My worry is if i use it regularly, and then i forget it one day, or god forbid, it breaks--i'll be a-walkin' home!

And p.s. I don't think i've ever actually worked "hard" on a long run! I am S-L-O-W!!
