After waiting and waiting for the floor guys to come over and install the new bathroom floor, I was finally able to get out for a run. I opened the gate, the dog made a dash for the car and was ecstatic when I actually let her in. We ran our usual 5k at Franklin Park. The skies were clear and blue and the air was cool. I held Maggie back for a slow, but very comfortable, pace for me. She happily obliged as it gave her more time to sniff the grass and a deer skeleton picked clean by scavengers.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the trail run in the meadow on the camping trip. All of us stayed up late into the night trying to finish the beer in the cooler and catching up on old times. It was a great feeling to just do NOTHING. Luxury camping is great because all you have to worry about is stoking the fire and keeping track of the bottle opener. I feel incredibly relaxed going into what will be a truly hellish week at work.

I was just digging around the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine and found a discussion thread from a February 2001 snapshot of the Blogger homepage. The subject line: runners we want you, we want you bad. I know this was way before I got into blogging, so maybe you all will get a kick out of it, too.

I set out for a nearly 6 mile run, but only did about 40 minutes before my knee just plain felt bad. It was a beautiful day, making the walk back enjoyable.

30 Minutes

I drove out the the W&OD trail terminus in Purcellville to revisit some stomping grounds I've missed out on for nearly a year. I started out on the trail, but before long it started raining and I turned around to head back. Then the rain stopped. To ensure I still kept my 30 minutes goal, I I turned left of the trail, ran by the high school, and through town to get back to my car.
Not the best weather, but the run felt great. I did go out a little fast, though. The first mile was about 8:00 pace.
